SDG 8
DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH
|
||
8.9 By 2030, devise and implement policies to promote sustainable tourism that creates jobs and promotes local culture and products | 8.9.2 Proportion of jobs in sustainable tourism industries out of total tourism jobs | The project's contribution to sustainable tourism is qualitative and based on its aim to "help create economic opportunities and distribute income to the community". The report suggests that a potential outcome is for the youth to become "little tour guides" or help publicize local tourist attractions. |
While the project successfully provided an educational and enriching experience for the student participants, its limited timeframe makes it difficult to measure the long-term impact on the community. This presents as a potential future outcome, such as the youth becoming "little tour guides," rather than a direct, measured result of the camp.
Impact on Participants
Learning and Skill Development: The camp provided a valuable opportunity for the 60 student participants to learn outside of a traditional classroom setting. The high satisfaction score of 4.8 out of 5 indicates the effectiveness of the camp's integrated learning approach. The students gained specific knowledge about sustainable tourism, as well as Thai and international culture.
Soft Skill Enhancement: The project's core purpose was to develop "soft skills" such as effective communication. The report indicates that the camp was successful in this regard, and it is a key outcome for the participating youth.
Impact on the Community
Cultural and Economic Promotion: By teaching the youth about tourism, the project is helping to foster "little tour guides" who can publicize local attractions. This directly contributes to the project's goal of using "soft power" to promote tourism, which can create economic opportunities and distribute income within the community.
Community and Youth Development: The project was a collaboration between the university and local high schools. This partnership serves as a model for how educational institutions can work together to develop both youth and the community.
